I strongly believe in a saying called “Work is Worship”.To me godliness is not idolization, rather it is the search for God in the work we do. Excellence is something we always aim at. What is the secret for achieving the excellence? The most raw and well defined answer is “To have that irresistible love and passion towards our work”.
So are you excelling in the work you do? If the answer is a yes, then here ends this story, happy for you,me and everyone. But what if its a NO? What if you are a mediocre or below average performer of the work you do for almost 37.5 percent (9am to 6pm) i.e, nearly 80 percent of your useful time excluding the trivial chores of a typical day.
So are we doing what we are irresistibly love and passionate about? (There is a flip side of this discussion called “If we can’t do what we Love the most, at least love what we end up doing,For time being let me stick to my agenda)If we are working on something that which we hadn’t wished for or which we cant love at all, then we are torturing ourselves for years we spent doing that and many more years to come. Are we that blind to realize this? No.All of of us are well aware of this but wont dare to step out of it due to many reasons like “fear of remaining unemployed” ,”unaware of what we love the most”, “family constraints”,”peer pressure” what not. There is a famous quote from Ayn Rand’s classic Fountain head .When asked by his professor about who will let him build the structutres once he steps out of college, The protagonist Howard Roark replies
“The point is not who will let me? The point is, who will stop me?”
Question yourself who is stopping you? This is an amazing Ted talk by Larry Smith. I recommend you to watch it.
Now to jump into main theme of my discussion, let me consider animals and their running speeds.Cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal in the world with nearly 120 kmph speed.Sail fishs are fastest water animals with a speed of nealy 110 kmph. Peregrine falcons are the fastest flying animals in the world with a speed of nearly 325 kmph(which makes them the fastest on the planet) These three are best in their lot.Now Imagine a cheetah running on water or Peregrine running on land, can they achieve this speed of their what made them the best? So its quite logical to arrive at a conclusion that what makes you the best depends not only your abilities but also your path. Which I call a medium. So a medium one chooses plays a very important role in their success.
Now coming to my next point, who is your idol in your life? The person whom you Idolize apart from your parents? Your answers could be famous people like Sachin Tendulkar , Amitabh Bacchan , APJ Abdul Kalam, Michael Jackson, Mother Teresa, Da Vinci, Bob Marley,Steve Jobs, Christopher Nolan and many. These people not only choose their medium but ended up being a medium for others. They excelled in their fields and became the face of their fields. They become an inspiration for their next generations. There are many actors who inspired from Amitabh and chose acting as their career and many kids who choose professional cricket inspiring from Sachin. Can we Imagine Indian Cricket without Sachin being played for India all these years?Like there was no sachin at all?How cricket would have been then? Then there would be no Virender shewags or Virat Kohlis too. Harsha Bhogle is one such example who revolutionised their Arena. Harsha Bhogle has made sports commentary to sound cool which was otherwise. He is someone who took sports commentary to another level.A true genius.
So to sum it up if you choose the career what you love you not only do yourselves a favour but also do your field a favour. Thats nothing but spreading happiness. So choose to be happy, spread happiness. what else do we need.So Choose your medium and be your medium.
